Blog #1 Wikipedia

From an educational perspective, I believe Wikipedia is both a blessing and a burden for both students and  teachers. I like the fact that Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia and you can literally anything on the website whether it is for research, a report, project or general information. However, I do not like that fact that anyone can write up an article and "publish" it and it will be posted. This is where, I believe it is a burden because when a student and/or a teacher is trying to do some research on a certain topic, how do you know that the information you are reading is really true?

As a teacher, I will tell my students that they may go on Wikipedia whenever they may choose, but they cannot use Wikipedia as a realiable source when doing any type of research or for any projects. The students cannot use this website due to the fact anyone can post an article and they, whoever post it, can make the reader believe their information is all true when really it can be all made up.  I was never allowed to use Wikipedia as a resource when I was in Middle or High School and I believe that was a good choice. Looking more into Wikipedia I believe it is a good website just to browse around but my students may not use it for any role in education.
